March 25, 2014- 7p.m. at Clinton Library “ DIGGING FOR 19th CENTURY BOTTLES IN CLINTON” Ted Kinney of Kalamazoo, who with Sanjit Deswal, dug in some of the old privies in Clinton in 2013, will talk about their method of digging and the collecting of old bottles. Some of the bottles they found were donated to the Historical Society. You can bring an old bottle to show and be identified.
April 22, 2014 7.p.m. at Clinton Library ANNUAL MEETING and 2014 BUILDIN MARKER AWARDS at 7:30. Officers are elected at this meeting and the budget for 2014-2015 is approved. Then Plaques will also be awarded for those owners, of buildings in Clinton, who have turned in applications (75 years or older) and been approved by the Building Marker Committee. Right now there are four applications.
May 20, 2014- 6 p.m. at the Clinton Inn-CELEBRATION OF 40 YEARS FOR THE HISTORICAL SOCIETY OF CLINTON, MICHIGAN. Dinner & Program. Make reservations by May 13 with Mary Houghton at 456-4074. Cost to be determined. Program by Norleen Hicks & Dianne Davis.

CLINTON LOCAL AVAILABLE DIGITALLY- The Friends of the Library & the Historical Society have made the Clinton Local 2001-2010 available at the Library, digitally. You can search for your topic through this whole decade. Also completed are the 1881-1920( where copies were available) and 1920-1940. The Friends of the Library have just voted to support the digitization of the 1940s&1950s. This is converting microfilm to digits. Thank you; what a nice gift to the Library and community.
CHRISTMAS HOUSE TOUR Under the leadership of Norleen Hicks our Christmas House Tour raised $372. Thanks to all who helped in any way. Planning for 2014 Walk is underway. If you’d like to help see Norleen.
ARCHIVES- We have finished organizing the 1970 clippings from the Clinton Local. Next is organizing news clippings from the 2000s so that they can be filed. We work 2:30-4:30 and can still use help. We will meet on Monday March 10 and 24 and April 7 & 21. A new venture will be cataloging our book collection. Cynthia Given has agreed to start this project. Archives are open for research on most Fridays, 3-5pm.

RECENT DONATIONS TO OUR ARCHIVES
We received a large antique Pharmacy Bottle from Michael & Patti Butzsky and books on the underground Railway in Lenawee County from Pat Sturk. Donations of area historical items are always welcome.

NEW BOARD MEMBER- STACIE WATERS- Stacie was elected Secretary at the April Annual Meeting. Stacie and her family live on Brown Street and she is an ER nurse at Mott Children’s Hospital.

MONEY, MONEY, MONEY- The HSC has spent around $700 on transferring

1930/40s Film, which we received in the 1980s from Robert Foreman, to digital

with the work being done by American Video in Brighton. This film was taken by

James R. Foreman who was Village President in the 1940s.

CLINTON LOCAL AVAILABLE DIGITALLY- The Friends of the Library & the Historical

Society have made the Clinton Local 1880-1960 available at the Library, digitally.

July 18, Trip to Greenfield Village meeting for lunch at 1pm at Eagle Tavern. Note we are not arranging transportation, but you can. The entry fee is $22.50 for seniors (62 & older), $25 adults and $18.75 for youth over 4 yrs. HISTORIC HIGHWAY GARDEN RESTORED ON W. US12. Just 2 weeks ago Ann Mason and Sharon Scott worked on our Garden on what was Meeks property west of town. The state had partially cut it down. We worked two days first clearing and weeding and then planting and mulching. Hope you enjoy.

REPORT on DEC. 17TH – HOLIDAY BUILDING TOUR OF CLINTON- The weather did not cooperate, but we still cleared a couple hundred dollars. Many thanks are due to our President Norleen Hick’s for chairing this event.

February 23, 1-4pm at Clinton Township Library Meeting Room- Repairing Clinton Township Tax Records. We will be working on the Clinton Township Tax Records replacing the leather ¼ binding and some of the hinges. They have been deteriorating.

March27, 7-8:30pm at Clinton Township Public Library “Early History of Farming in Lenawee County” by Ray Leonard, curator of the William G. Thompson House Museum & Gardens in Hudson, MI. He is also active in the Civil War Roundtable in Lenawee County.
April 24, 7-8:30 pm – at Clinton Township Public Library- Annual Meeting 7pm, Building Marker presentations 7:30

May 22, 7-8:30 pm at Clinton Township Public Library – “Century Old Inns in Michigan:
The Clinton Inn, The Book Cadillac & Fireside Inn at Presque Isle” The history and preservation of these Inn’s will be presented by Virginia Davis of Dexter, MI. Mrs. Davis wrote her Masters Thesis on this topic.

June 26, 6 pm at Norma Every’s house at 11533 Braun Rd., Manchester. PICNIC- bring a dish to pass and your own place setting.

July – Tour of Rowland’s Buildings in Detroit may be a possibility. Let us know if you would be interested in such a tour.
